Work and School Physicals Q & A

Why would I need a physical for school?

Requirements for enrolling in school can vary from school to school. If your child’s school requires a physical exam in order to enroll, the team at Gadh Family Practice can help. Some schools and universities may also require a physical before participating in team sports. These physicals generally require an overall well-being check, although sometimes they also require routine lab work.

Dr. Gadh will check your child’s lymph nodes, respiratory function, heart rhythm, and blood pressure, and run other checks the school may require or the doctor deems necessary. School physicals also typically require your doctor to complete paperwork. The caring medical team at Gadh Family Practice is happy to help with any school paperwork you may have.

Do you offer employment physicals?

Yes. Some employers require that their employees go through screening prior to employment. The doctors at Gadh Family Practice have extensive experience in working with employers to ensure all required elements of the work physical are completed. Dr. Gadh can even fill out any paperwork required by your employer — often the same day — so you can get started on your new job as quickly as possible.

Are there any special preparations I need to do before coming to my physical appointment?

Yes. Bring in all of your required paperwork from your school or work. Be sure to look it over thoroughly. Odds are, there are parts that you need to fill out beforehand. If it needs to be faxed or mailed, make sure you have the fax number, or address available.

Make notes of your family history, if you don’t already have all of that memorized. During a physical exam, Dr. Gadh will want to go over your entire family’s medical history, as well as your own. You’ll also need to bring a list of every medication and supplement you’re taking, even if it’s just an over-the-counter daily multivitamin. Sometimes it’s easier just to bring in the bottles so Dr. Gadh can see the exact prescribed dosages of each pill.
